Hi, Pat & all... I'm with you on the cell phone issue. I have one, but only use it in emergencies & NOT while I'm driving. I was at a red light the other day & a SEMI turned left in front of me and he was talking on a cell phone while negotiating the turn. That REALLY freaked me out!... Melissa
Well, I pay for the comfort of having that phone, and it has come in
handy,
though it costs more than I like. Cell phones give me a piece of mind.
But
I will admit, I practically have my own accidents when I see people barely holding onto the steering wheel with one hand when making left turns and talking on cell phones at the same time. I've done periodic counts of 10 cars at a time and the number of people talking on cell phones and I get about 40% of drivers are talking on cell phones. I'm still not certain if
I
get bent out of shape over these folks talking on cell phones because I DO NOT have anyone that I want to talk to that much--or if I think they
really
do make driving hazardous. I know the research is still being done on the hazardous component. But I suspect the day of reckoning is coming and
there
will be a national law about driving and talking on cell phones.
Sometimes I feel so dated...
