1st , tell us more about the garage sale...what we can sell or swap, are we just placing our lists on this site. How's this doing to work now?
HUmane societies etc. vary so much not just from state to state but county to co. in the same state . We have a pretty good one in our County but the next Co. over which is quite big as that's the one Birmingham is in..always has problems & gets itself into trouble . We also have one man who uses his own money to fund a Pet Rescue service. If you lose or find an animal , you call him with all the information . He puts the info in the newspaper , a small ad, which costs you little. He uses his special 'rescue' phone number so the people never speak to you but to his people..this saves you from crack pots, or maybe you're not at a home a lot. He screens the calls.. & acts as a go between . & gives you the information . He does this for nothing & never asks for a donation just for money for the ad. He advises you on putting up fliers with his phone number not yours on it & tells you to call all the various rescue societies & vets close by, gives you their numbers . He's help me find the owners for 3 dogs I've found so far. One was a tiny thing, very old & barely could see or walk...very far from home too, never could figure how it got so far away. If your animal is missing you shouldn't hesitate one second to put out the alarm . Call the pound several times a day cause half the people that work there are idiots or uncaring & don't know or care to bother finding out what animals they do have..by calling a lot you might luck into one with sense... Better still, go there in person. These pound people are completely different from humane or rescue societies people which often go to some lengths to place an animal in a good home, not to mention keeping the found animal for a longer time. Some rescued animals have to be put to sleep due to serious injuries, incurable diseases & animals who are used in dog fights usually can't be trusted around children, definetly can't be trusted around other animals as small dogs or cats are sometimes used to 'train' the fighter & you can guess what happens to them. Would you consider yourself in the business of cat rescue? Do you get cats deposited in the night on your doorstep or in your mailbox?
