This is the first chance I have had to write, my husband passed away on Sunday Morning at 7:00 A. M. He had emphysema for approximately 12 years, however, we lived our lives day day, never dwelling on his illness, never feeling sorry for ourselves. We felt each day was a gift. In the last three months, we both knew, but again we just kept going and being thankful for what we had.
I am also so very thankful for the fact that I stayed with my husband in the hospital the last 3 days, only going home to take a shower, and then my daughter and son in law were with him. I was awake from 4:00 A. M. on Sunday, and was talking to him until he drew his last breath, he knew I was there and who I was. This was a wonderful gift that so many thousands and thousands of people did not receive this past week, when their loved ones were taken in the horrific events that took place.
The only reason I am writing this is to say to all of you, be thankful and enjoy every day that you have your loved one by your side. Be patient, kind and understanding of each other.. Dick and I just celebrated our 18th Wedding Anniversary but they were the greatest and most wonderful years of my life. Again thanks so very much to all of you for your prayers.

Pat,
How wonderful to know you had lovely years with someone you loved so dearly, and that you could be there with him at the end. There is evidence of peace and acceptance in your "voice," but I know the pain of loss is there also, and that you are feeling it. May I extend to you my sincerest condolences. God Bless.
