I am here going through all of my doll clothing trying to find something that I like for my new dolls ... It seems the more I know about fashion and clothing, the less happy I am with doll clothing! Everything fits poorly, I hate velcro, fabrics are not the right scale, ugh! So I have a question for you all. Is there any nicefashion doll clothing avialable? What about the Alysa collectible line? What about the new Integrity Candi clothing? It seems ridiculous that I have been collecting dolls for this many years and now all the sudden I can't find anything that I like (other than vintage Barbie but I don't want my new dolls wearing my vintage Barbie clothing).
Anybody?
Randall
You're right, Randall, a lot of playline fashion doll clothing is cheesy. To my way of looking at a solution to the problem (as I am always comparing modern-day doll clothing's quality to vintage Barbie clothing of the 60s--things do start to deteriorate after '72) is the Fashion AVenues. I've often thought if I had the time, the outfits with the Velcro I could replace with hooks and snaps. I always pay close attention to Fashion Avenues with plaids to find the box with the plaids matching (like I would if I were buying clothing for me) and I look to see that clothing has the minimum lumps and bulges and lays flat on the little plastic form in the box.
The other 11.5" fashions that were very nicely done, better than Fashion Avenues, were the Barbie Millicent Roberts fashions. At least real snaps could be found on them.
I 'spose if you've got gobs of money, you could buy Silkstone Barbie fashions, but I thought the doll's shape is different in form and proportion from vintage Barbies and definitely, the clothing would be designed to fit just that Silkstone doll.
There's Elizabeth's mother who is experimenting with doll fashion design, too, so you might find new fashions being created for sale on ebay. For the newer, unknown designers, some of the pricing makes it very tempting to give their fashions a go.
(Even older Candi fashions didn't compare with vintage Barbie clothes or Silkstone Barbie clothing.)
I strongly suggest Fashion Avenues and changing out the tacky notions used with real hooks and snaps. You're not going to see me ever installing a fashion doll-sized zipper. I won't do it for people size, I hate putting in zippers so much. Not as much as buttonholes, though. Blick! Regards, Pat Brown
