No problem (it's nothing to do with Pascal in general, anyway -- as Peter noted, the only predefined routines to deal with time in Pascal are GetTimeStamp etc., but they measure real time, not CPU time). As I said in my last mail, if you have a not too old GPC release, you can use GetCPUTime. (In contrast to VAX Pascal, the result is not "most likely" in 10ms intervals, but definitely in seconds and microseconds. :-) So, if you want a "most likely";-) VAX Pascal compatible `Clock' routine, you can use the following code. (I use `LongInt' for the return value just in case -- `Integer' would be good for 2^31/100/86400 ~ 249 days.) I see what the problem is: I'm using GNU Pascal as opposed to DEC VAX Pascal (where clock is a global function defined below). Does anyone know a way to mimic this "clock" in GNU Pascal? (I apologize for my lack of Pascal knowledge!) e.g. y := clock/1000-y1 Source:http://www.openvms.digital.com/wizard/group3/335.HTML Ask the Wizard Questions PASCAL Language: PASCAL CLOCK The Question is: What is the granularity of the CLOCK command in VAX PASCAL, also, what units does it measure? The Answer is: According to the DEC Pascal Language Reference Manual: " 8.21 CLOCK Function The CLOCK function returns an integer value indicating the amount of central processor time (in milliseconds) used by the current process. This function does not have a parame- ter list. The result of CLOCK includes the amount of central processor time allocated to all previously executed images." That being the case, the value is most likely taken from the system clock which is incremented at 10ms intervals - hence the granularity will be 10ms. A simple program seems to support this: PROGRAM CheckClock(OUTPUT); VAR LastTime,NextTime : INTEGER; BEGIN LastTime:=CLOCK; REPEAT NextTime:=CLOCK; UNTIL LastTime <> NextTime; WriteLn('LastTime = ',LastTime,' NextTime = ',NextTime); END. $ run checkclock LastTime = 3495890 NextTime = 3495900 Note however that the granularity may vary in future as OpenVMS is capable of expressing times to an accuracy of 100ns. - - - - - - - - - - - - - Raymond Wang Department of Electrical Engineering Stanford University www.stanford.edu/~rayw

Hi, When I compile my pascal code with GNU Pascal's compiler, I get undeclared identifier `Clock' when I reference it in my code: e.g. y := clock/1000-y1 I thought Clock is a predefined global function. What should I do in order for the compiler to recognize the clock command? Thanks! HELP! Running Pascal 'exe's in Unix

Hello , I tried downloading full.exe for installation of Cygnus. ftp://sunsite.auc.dk/pub/cygwin/cygwin-b20/ and then the GPC from ftp://agnes.dida.physik.uni-essen.de/pub/home/chief/gpc-20000401-i686-pc-cygwin.zip I tried compiling the pascal programs that came along in windowsNT and run it in unix environment. The compilation was fine but it didn't run. Should i compile them under unix environment,say Linux? Can somebody tell me how to run them? COMPILING PROGRAMS THAT USE UNITS : I am not able to give units directory though i change the setupgpc.bat .It says files not found. COMPILING PROGRAMS THAT USE WINAPI The compilation indicates that winapi doesnot exist. LINKING OBJECTS I tried giving -fautolink as one of the compile parameters but it doenot work. Where do i find the list of compile parameters?I find many in readme.text but i find different ones in setupgpc.bat. Thanks in advance . Regards, Anuradha

Unit-path and uses 'winapi'

Hello, Unit-directory : When i change the unit-path in the setupgpc.bat , it doesnot seem to take up the units from the changed directory.I did the compile of the build.pas as mentioned in the readme.txt.But still it doenot compile with those units.So,I am putting the units in the working directory itself. Winapi : I get an error in the units that use 'winapi'.How do i change them. Thank you. Regards, Anuradha
