As for static libs, they have the version number encoded into them (file names, and `-soname=...'), so the linker can prevent the wrong one from being linked. (At least that's true for Unix-like systems; I've heard under Windoze there are bigger problems, but I don't have personnal experience...) But if the compiler version also matters, it means we would have to use something like `/usr/lib/libjpeg.so.6.0.1.gcc-2.8.1'... And for static libs, this matters if another lib is compiled with one version of the lib (i.e., against its headers), and later used with another version of the lib. Yes, this can be a problem, but only affects a fraction of the libs out there (e.g. svgalib), while libgcc.a could potentially affect everything since it's used automatically by GCC, so the extent of problems would be much bigger. Anyway, I'm gonna ask the GCC people next year... could not compile crt.pas

I had compiled gpc on Sparc Solaris 7 OK. But the crt.pas was not compiled. Vacation

Hi, the GPC team is taking vacations. Peter has already gone on holidays, and I'll also be off for some days. Furthermore, we do not know for sure if our mail server, or any server on the way, or any server's power supply, or whatever else will by affected by any Y2K bugs. I just checked it. I assume you mean gpc-19990118-1.src.rpm. It contains gpc-19990118.tar.gz which is a complete GPC source archive, including CRT and the other units. Did you install GPC after building with `make install' or similar? If you just copied the compiler executables or something, you'll be missing the units, of course. In case the installation is done by the packaging utilities automatically (I didn't check this), maybe these scripts have to be adjusted... But you can simply copy the units from the source archive to the directory named above, they're not modified in any way while building GPC.
