"keypressed" from TP/BP?

Hi, all. I've been enjoying great success with GPC since Maurice and others helped me get the graphics going. I'm now hung up on a little side issue. In TP and BP, there was a useful Boolean function "keypressed". This let you do things like: begin massive loop if keypressed then begin ch := readkey; [ process keystroke here] end; [do the rest of the massive loop here] end; I can drag in "getch" from C to do the readkey, but I don't know how to do a "keypressed" function. So now I either have to wait for keystrokes at each pass through the loop, or take the getch completely out of the loop. Surely someone in the group knows how to do this, either with a (undocumented) GPC function, or by dragging in some other obscure C function! Hello???

Hey, is anybody out there or was I removed from the list after the my 'problem' with UNAME? :-) At any rate, am going to attempt to compile the alpha GPC on Red Hat 5.1 this weekend. Unfortunately the Debian compiled binary didn't work too well (at all). I know for some of you compiling this may be an easy exercise but for me... Well, wish me luck! RHIDE question

I know it might be offtopic, but I need some help configuring RHIDE for DOS / Windows. I want RHIDE to compile .RC files, and I don't know where to configure it. GPC bug involving rewrite?

I'm in the process of moving some pascal code from an old sun compiler to gpc, and encountered a problem with rewrite. Here's a little program that illustrates it: Program Main(input,output); Var assembly : text; begin rewrite(assembly,'output.file'); writeln(assembly,'Hello'); writeln(assembly,'Goodbye...'); end. Ths compiles ok, but when I run it, I get the error message ?GPC runtime error: (gpc-rts) Internal file namei wrong (#700) when the rewrite is executed. We appear to have version 2.7.2.1 of gpc installed, and I'm running it on a Sun UltraSPARC (Solaris 2.5). I'd be grateful if someone could tell me whether this is a known bug, and if it is, whether it's fixed in a later version of gpc. case/break bug?

Actually, I don't know if it's a bug or a feature, but apparently in GPC when you use 'break' inside a case statement the execution jumps to the end of the case. In Borland Pascal executing break would exit the enclosing block. For example, in while ... do begin ... case ... of ...: ... break; end; {case} end; {while} when break is executed, the 'while' loop should be stopped. Of course, this is different from C. I have not found reference to this 'break' incompatibility in the GPC documentation, so I thought I should report it, just in case.

SPAM and Virus at kampi ?

Hi all, I receive since a couple of weeks SPAM mail (with SNN in the subject). Sender and Dest are bogus, and change each time. But the mail is always relayed through santra.hut.fi, which I suppose is the gateway of kampi.hut.fi (IP numbers are 130.233.224.2 for kampi and 130.233.224.2 for santra). I suppose also that they had my mail address in the mailing list or ftp list of kampi. As usual they say that if you want to unsubscribe you have to send a message to some address, which is also bogus and change each time. I have replied the first time, so I receive a couple of messages each time. Now kampi seems permanently down (not replying to ping), while santra is on. May be they are aware of that and are down for this reason. If you know somebody there, you could give them these explanations to help them to fight. But a phone call is more appropriate than an e-mail !! Realization of the Self =B)...

I'd like to see register EDI point to Self on entry into a method rather than Self being on the stack. The reason is because setting the address of a point right before using it (ie what GPC does now) causes an address calculation stall (on any cpu risc or cisc). It would also be more convenient to simply reference the pointer using a preset register. Doing this would also remove about 3 or 4 unnnecessary 32-bit instructions which means smaller code size (why does GPC save Self on the stack when it already is?). See ya! Hi, me again! I've discovered another strange problem with GPC-19980830 which appears to be a bug. The following program produces a fatal signal 11 from gpc1: -------cut----------- program MAPPER; type PtNo = 1..5; procedure DrawMap; var Sp: array [PtNo] of integer; begin end; procedure PrintMap; var Sp: array [PtNo] of integer; begin end; begin end. -------cut----------- ida % gpc -c bug.p gpc: Internal compiler error: program gpc1 got fatal signal 11 I'm using gpc version 19980830, based on egcs-2.91.57 19980901 (egcs-1.1 release) on Redhat 5.1. Now if I comment out either of the two procedure definitions above the problem goes away. Also if I change the var lines (either one or both of them) to: var Sp: array [1..5] of integer; That works ok too. Any help/suggestions/bug-fixes gratefully received!!
