GPC-20050331 compilation error for unit name conflict

Hello, I noticed that GPC-20050331 generates compilation errors if a unit (included in a uses... statement) is named the same as a function identifier or type identifier. Is this intentional, known, or should I send a short example program? Thanks, - Inga

Good morning, I installed the gpc with gcc binary on a Linux machine (file gpc-2.1-with-gcc.i686-pc-linux-gnu.tar.gz), executed install-gpc-binary, updated ~/.bashrc with GPC_EXEC_PREFIX, but when I try to execute gpc, I get the following error: gpc: /lib/i686/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.3' not found (required by gpc) So I put the library libc-2.3.3.so in the directory /home/usr/local/lib/gcc-lib/i686-pc-linux-gnu/2.95.2 and updated the library path, putting in ~/.bashrc the following line: LIBRARY_PATH=$LIBRARY_PATH:/clx/userunivts/utsts007/silvio/src.dev3.old/old/usr/local/lib/gcc-lib/i686-pc-linux-gnu/2.95.2 but the error does not go away. On another machine, it goes like a breeze. Does anybody have a solution? packing Strings()?

I often need to store a lot of strings, and don't want to waste the space allocated to a String(255) for each one. With "short" strings, I just allocate memory (with the Mac system NewPtr routine, not with the Pascal New routine) for Length(s)+1 bytes, and then BlockMove the string in. This has the advantage that the string can be references as just Str255Ptr(s)^ (sometimes the size needs to be aligned to 2 or 4 bytes, depending on the platform). I could do the same thing with GPC's Schema String(255), but I'd have to pack them in, and then unpack them out to a temporary variable to access them, I could not access them in place in the packed data block. I presume there are clever ways to do such things in GPC/EP? What would be the options for packing strings into a block of memory and yet still having them usable? Forward defined types (and object references)

What facilities does GPC have for forward defining types. In CW Pascal, I have some code that looks like this: type MyProc = procedure( browser: MyObjectA ); MyObjectA = object f: MyProc; b: MyObjectB; procedure Doit( proc: MyProc ); function GetB: MyObjectB; end; MyObjectB = object; f: MyObjectA; // other references to ObjectA end; Keep in mind all the "used before defined" types are pointer types (objects being implicitly pointers) and defined in the same "type" block. GPC is not happy with this. Needless to say, given the dual referential nature of the references, it is hard to see how I can cleanly untangle this. Is there any support in GPC or EP for these kinds of forward defined types? Any suggestions how I can untangle them within GPC? The best I can see is to turn all of them into explicit pointers and explicit dereferences, which is doable, but rather ugly. Any suggestions? Yes, that would be what I'd expect, although the EP definition of class .. end; is acceptable to. I'd suggest GPC accept either syntax to be compatible with Delph and EP (as well as allowing it with "object" when using reference objects for the Mac case).
