This is a bit extra work, especially when I want to start major changes after an alpha (which I'm doing right now, so for this release, it's too late), but perhaps we should try this after the next release. Since I want to slowly move towards a 2.2 release, we'll need a beta version sometime, anyway.
Perhaps you do the testing on your systems after the alpha release (mostly as you do now), so I won't have to make a pre-alpha, alpha and later beta version, just an alpha and a beta then.
If this works out, I figure we can have some alpha/beta pairs, then a few release candidates and a 2.2 sometime next year.
That seems like a good idea. If Gerrit wants to take over the Cygwin binaries, then that is fine too - in which case I can stop putting new Cygwin stuff in my contrib directory and I can concentrate on Mingw ...
