One of the reasons I had a lot of trouble was that the compiling of GPC overwrote system files in /usr/bin/ : sed help2man flex bison and yacc were all modified. It turned out that an important program depended on the original version of sed and that ruined my work for about a month while I traced down the problem.
The GPC compile should NOT modify any system programs! If you need specific versions of programs, use local ones.
