If all you need is system time, why do you go through all of the ... misunderstand what exactly you need for a 'system time.'
Why not just write a wrapper to the C functions? There's a standard time function isn't there? The Sources to Persistence Of Vision Raytracer have a Random function that works the same across all platforms.
