Hi gpc fans,
I think many people are bullfighting with gpc-installation on various platforms, me as well. It's a hard job. Hence I decided to write a tool trying to do all the work from scratch automatically. The tool (install.gpc) is intended to work for UNIX/Linux systems:
System Status ----------------------------------------------- Linux SuSE 7.2 OK Linux SuSE 6.3 OK, makeinfo ver. 1.68 didn't work, needs 4.0 SunOS See URLs below IRIX See URLs below, same problem as for SunOS HP-UX Wrong make version, delayed AIX Not tested up to now, delayed
The current status is that install.gpc seems to work fine only on Suse 6.3 & 7.2. Initial problems were due to an outdated makeinfo. Everybody who is interested may download the tool from: http://www.desy.de/~bohnen/gpc/install.gpc make it executeble and try it out (first time I recommend to do it as a simple user). Simply type: install.gpc <RET> to install gpc from scratch (default is pgc-20010623 with gcc-2.95.2). Type install.gpc -h for how to modify defaults and control verbosity, etc.
Have a look on pre/post mortem log files written by install.gpc.
http://www.desy.de/~bohnen/gpc/install.log.SUN http://www.desy.de/~bohnen/gpc/install.log.IRIX http://www.desy.de/~bohnen/gpc/install.log.HP-UX (no gmake)
Maybe there is somebody who knows the reason for abnormal end of installation. Hints and suggestions are welcome to make install.gpc run more successful on those systems.
