K00l, I'll check it out :)
The reason I never actually finished that project was because I got stuck!
I know how that goes :)
I couldnt figure out a way to make the character that you control move around the screen, and interact with the enviromnent. EG: The character must be able to move BEHIND the table, but not THROUGH the table. In other
That's the key component to my game lib, and the main reason I want to add a script engine. I saw an article in "Game Developer's Magazine" about one of the programmers of Star Wars (Rebel Assault I think it was? I don't remmeber, could be Shadows Of The Empire), and in the script language it had one for the doors, walls, characters, and I think other things. One of the game designers wrote a script that would flood the level after hitting a certain sequence of switches, and nobody knew how he did it (the programmer who wrote the script engine himself was baffled :), so a good script engine could be a key component.
words, I couldnt figure out a good way of knowing where a character is allowed to walk... Hmm, now that I come to think of it - It doesnt seem that hard (I have an idea). Maybe the project will be reborn...
Do a web search on Amit Patel, his web site is chock full of A* algorithms and AI. What you need for that is most likely the A* algorithm.
Anyway, if you want to take a look at some source, just ask and Ill email the whole lot to you. You probably wont understant most of it (I wouldnt!)...
I usually like to keep the end-user away from programming type problems. Scripting is clearly a programmers job, so it should not be tailored for the end user (How many end-users actually write macros in MS-WORD??). I
IMO, the programming part, the programmer interface, is important to the programmer, but the actual language and syntax is important to the user, not everybody is a programmer.
