Deboxing dolls

I agree with Suzanne, once you debox a few, it becomes easier and easier to display your dolls. I view dolls as art. I display my favorite dolls in small glass show cases. This way I can appreciate them every day. I just do not have a lot of space to display, or I would have every doll deboxed that I own. That is the reason I sold off a lot of dolls that I had to keep in closets due to not having room to display. Take Care Pat feick

Display question

Hi All, Got some pics taken, and thought I would share. These first two show my display shelves. The two story book dolls on the top shelf are awaiting my MIL and are not really part of my collection. Spring Cleaning

Eight years ago, we remodeled the whole house, at that time I sent a truckload to auction, and then I gave away, donated, and threw out everything that I had not used in the last year, and items that I felt I would not use for another year. Then for the next 7 plus years, it seems like I never threw anything out. Since Dick passed away in September, I have been donating, giving away and selling tons of stuff. I cannot believe how much STUFF I collected. So I really have been doing Spring Cleaning for the past 6 months. I have learned that we do not own STUFF it owns us. I am keeping a small amount of dolls that I collected, but I have sold over 300 on e bay. All of those dolls were packed in closets in boxes because I never had space to display them. CANDI BODIES!

Hi ALL, Candi has he same exact body she has had forever it seems, The ONLY thing INtegrity did when they took over production of Candi was they FIXED the STICKY arm problem so very common to the older Candi dolls so that they now move they way they should have all along! TTYS Kevin

All Candi dolls being produced use the original Candi body. I'm getting ready to leave town to do a show tomorrow in Plano, TX (just outside Dallas, TX). Hi ALL, Actually I should have clarified that a little more, ALL of the INtegrity dolls have the same bodies--ie ALYSA/JADE/JANAY, and Candi had always had the same body she now has too! ALso the Mikelman Charice doll was the SAME doll as ALYSA, same molds. TTYS Kevin

I have deboxed all the dolls in my collection exept for two- a blonde Darci (and that's because I have three blondes already out of the box) and the Billyboy Feelin' Groovy (that's because she's been residing at my mother's house but that and her box situation are about to change since I just asked my my mother to ship her to me). I really think that the market has changed regarding NRFB/MIB/etc even with Barbie, which I have always felt was where most of the hard core NRFBers came from. It seems like you can make more money off of a Barbie if you open her sell the doll nude and the outfit seperately, especially on eBay. It's crazy to think but there are many of us that don't look at the NRFB dolls anymore, instead we look at the deboxed ones and people seem to pay just as much if nor more for them because they can actually see what the doll looks like. I do keep some of my boxes though. My rules are pretty much the cheaper dolls, the dolls that have had their hair cut, or the dolls that aren't complete with original clothing anymore don't need boxes! My Magic Attics and American girls and Daisy and Willow all have their boxes because it makes storing/moving them much easier.

Hmmm, definitely food for thought. My kids told me not all that long ago that with the collecting that I do they have become afraid to throw out expired medication bottles, LOL! This has been a really interesting thread. Pat, I, too, would like to encourage you to open just one or two dolls and play with them. I was the same as you are with the "fear factor" of reducing value until about 8 years ago when a special friend who lives near me, that I met through the Internet of all things, got me to take this step and taught me how to finally enjoy my collection. Once you actually get a doll or two released, it is amazing how quickly the "fun factor" kicks in! I do have dolls that are boxed because I like the way they display that way, such as the already mentioned Star Trek set and the Harley #1 Barbie. I also have some dolls that are boxed simply because I don't have enough room to display everything at once. I try to rotate boxed dolls and rotate the larger fashion dolls as well. Space is at a premium for the larger dolls, so even when they come out of their boxes some of them have to go back in for short periods of time. Some of the boxes I keep and some of the boxes I throw away. Some of the boxes are kept for awhile but then I get in a cleaning frenzy and pitch them as I realize I will never, ever part with the former occupant, LOL. I have dolls in almost all of the rooms of the house. My kids always told me they were afraid to go away to college because they thought they would come home to find their rooms usurped by dolls. The Alysa body is not as busty as the Candi body and never has been, to my knowledge. Alysa is a tad bustier than Barbie but it isn't by much. I can't even think of a doll who is, or was, as busty as Candi has always been. Can anyone else?
