Hi, all! Happy holidays to each & every one! Just a couple little bits of dollie news. Vicky will no longer be publishing Dolls In Print. Looks like the last issue was the Winter one. Those with subscriptions are getting pro-rated refunds. Sigh! Another good doll magazine "down the tubes"... There are some nice new 11 1/2" and 15 1/2" doll patterns out from Simplicity & Jo-Ann is having a $1.99 sale on Simplicity patterns through the end of the month, I believe. There is even a picture of Charice wearing one of the 90's outfits in the latest Simplicity catalog. Just thought you might be interested. Melissa in MD (decked in holly & dollies)
Was there any particular reason(s) for the ceasing of publication other than the obvious--it's all consuming and not the least lucrative to publish a doll magazine? Yes, I'm still around--lurking. Regards, pat Brown ----- Original Message ----- From: Bradford To: JuansNecklace ; CandiChat Sent: Wednesday, December 19, 2001 8:36 AM Subject: Re: Doll News

According to her message board, Vicky had some medical problems. Hey, Melissa. Good holiday cheer to all you other familiar and newer Chatters. Yes it is unfortunate that this magazine is having to fold. I, however, have not taken a subscription to a doll magazine for almost 2 years, given that collecting dolls is all-consuming and takes up a lot of space. I've got so many klunky dolls to liquidate that I'm dreading the process of the selling. But it has to be done before I'll commit to any serious re-collecting.
Having said that, I have needed to purchase a few recent doll magazines because I wanted to read up on what Madame Alexander has been doing with its ultra limited Cissy line. Couldn't find "Dolls" or "Doll Reader" except at Borders' magazine section. "Barbie Bazaar" I once could find at Waldenbooks, but no more, and it was only at Borders. "Contemporary Doll" was the one other doll magazine I saw at Borders. I remember when it read like a high-falutin' collector magazine, but I think its toned down the high-brow . Maybe I was too late for the current issues of other magazines. Geesh, it's a grueling business to be in publishing. Pat, I just got my Barbie Baz. in the mail so maybe the new one just is hitting the stands now, it has a pic. of a miltary Barbie on the front & an art. on such Barbie dolls inside plus some other interesting stuff & neat pictures. Apparently there's been a discussion going on as to whether there should be art. about dolls other than Barbie in this mag. Most don't seem to want to hear about larger dolls such as Gene but do want to hear about Cherise & Integrity dolls , Candi was mentioned & other such 11 1/2 in. dolls. My guess is tho, that they'll prob. just stick to Barbie. Pat H. in Al.
I just got this issue too. No Integrity ad like the past several issues I'm guessin they're waiting for 2002 lines. Can't wait! I would like to see Candi featured in Barbie Bazaar, since DIP is now gone and they featured Candi. I think we should all write BB and let em' know that we want to see Candi in there, agree? Their addy is www.barbiebazaar.com you can write comments from there.

Rene,
That's a great idea!! It makes sense, since Candi's about the same height as Barbie.
I would also like to see Alysa, Jade and Janay in there...and of course, Charice as well!
I'll write to BB...anyone else? The more the better!! (Come on Pat, you'd like to see this too!) :)

good sugestions about including Candi in Barb. Baz...I'll do it
HI all, just fired one out to BB about having more CANDI!!! Their Addy is MCPUB@barbiebazaar.com
Below is my letter Love, Rene
HI!
I'm an avid doll collector and reader of your magazine. First of all, GREAT JOB! I always look forward to each issue. I realize that your magazine's main focus is on Barbie, and to be quite honest I have little interest in the larger fashion dolls such as Tyler and Gene. HOWEVER, I DO want to read MORE about other 11.5 inch fashion dolls on the market such as your recent article on Yue Sai Wa Wa which I enjoyed a lot. I am a collector of CANDI dolls and other Integrity Toys dolls and the recent "Candi is Back" ads in your magazine really caught my attention! Why not do a coverage on this doll? Since Jason Wu was a winner of your BMAA a few years back and now a designer of this doll it would be very interesting to cover!
Sincerely, Rene

I think you're right about the magazine just sticking to Barbie. That's okay by me because Barbie is an institution and there's so much that can be written about that doll alone. But it is curious that a magazine about fashion doll collecting can't become its own institution. There sure are enough fashion dolls to write about especially if one includes older "original" fashion dolls like Madame Alexander's Cissy or Miss Revlons and Vogue's Jills and Jeffs. I guess "Doll Reader" is suppose to fill that need to know about other fashion dolls. I received a new plat. haired Candi which I immediately dressed in Winter Mist...that outfit just seems to call for a plat. haired beauty altho I'd imagine it'd look good on any one of them. It was the Swedish doll dressed in the blk turtleneck & chkered skirt. Do you know you have to remove the dolls head to get off this sweater as it won';t stretch over? Man that was scary, but the head came off easily enough. I dont' like messing with doll's body parts, I tore too many Barbie necks trying to remove them..of course, they have those awful holders on her head to keep kids from pulling them off, tho why that'd be a prob. I don't know, those heads are too large to swallow. I also got an Asian Holiday Toast doll... not only was she great but I just love the Champagne bottles & 2 glasses that come with her. I carefully cut the little box containing them at it's tops & bottoms & left the bottle, glasses inside but swung back the doors I'd just made, to show them off. These are displayed along with My AA Int'l dressed in the gold Rush outfit, love the jewelry that comes with this . Also on displayed are the grocery'/drugstore Barbie dressed in the white outfit with the fur & last years doll dressed in the long , green ,slinky dress...they're trimming a tree which I decorated with my mom's Xmas earrings ( she had quite a lot & my ears aren't pierced & this is a way of remembering her also) Also displayed are the Kelly Xmas dolls ( the snowman, Rudolf etc ) & the Nutcracker bunch. I don't know who gets a bigger kick out of all this, me or the grandkids or my fellow doll coll. buddies. Pat H.
Ohhh Pat...This all sounds VERY FESTIVE! Do you have a digital camera? It would be great if you could share some pictures of this with the group, as well as your new Candis in their new fashions.

I wish I could send pictures but I don't know how to do this Pat h
Whaaaaaa - Santa's not getting me a new Candi! I'll have to put Winter Mist on an 'old' Candi. I was thinking the opposite direction, WM might look good on an AA or the black bubblecut from the 1st Retro series?
Mine is still in it's box under the tree so I can't play for another couple of days. I'll try and post some pictures after Christmas?
I would really like the Gold Rush outfit. Candi looks sooooo mahhhhvelous in mini skirts. She's got those toned athletic looking legs as opposed to Barbies scrawy anorexic look.
