Word Alignment Optimization or bug?

The fragment:- module Size; var BoolVar: Boolean; procedure fred; begin BoolVar := True; end; {fred} end. {module} produces the following 68k code (from 20010623). Should the .lcomm line not be .lcomm Boolvar,1, or is the compiler saying that byte alignment is really horrid and is trying to avoid it? .file "size.p" gcc2_compiled.: __gnu_compiled_pascal: .lcomm Boolvar,2 .text .even Fred: link.w %a6,#0 move.b #1,Boolvar .L2: unlk %a6 rts

Hi! Could you please tell me, how to use locales in GNU-Pascal. Do I have to use an own database for strings, which need to be translated? Is it possible to use i18n files? Eike

Problem with preprocessor conditionals

Hi all I'm having problem with preprocessor conditionals containing comparisions, eg. "#if X == 4". After the following code has executed, the variable var1 is set to 10,not 15 as I expected. --------------------------- #define X 4 #define Y 1 . . . var1 := 0; #ifdef Y var1 := 10; #endif #if X == 4 var1 := 15; #endif ---------------------------- Should this work as I expect? Random function

Hi, The following question concerns a friend of mine. As I am not at all familiar with GPC it might seem silly. My friend tries to use the random function like this: " rand := random/exp(31*ln(2)); " When she compiles the program she gets the error " In function 'Rand' : undefined reference to 'Random' ". The question is: is the syntax correct or does GPC support random function? Her program runs correctly on UNIX, however UNIX is not always available, hence she needs to use Linux 7. Unfortunately I don't know what version of GPC is installed. Could you please help? Regards Jon

gpc 20010924 and rts configure

I am working on UnixWare 7.1.1 with gcc 2.95.3 and gpc 20010924. The rts configure script still does not work detecting the absence of sys_siglist. The variable in the test program has been changed to be volatile but it is still optimised out unless the variable is actually used. Turning optimisation off or returning sys_siglist in the test program both work for me. Theo Carr-Brion

Memory leak

Folks, there is a serious memory leak in the gpc-20010623. The full story: The gpc version on the SuSE 7.2 CD is broken. The installation from source is smooth. The results of the test codes are excellent only 8 fails. Then comes the problem. I wrote a code. It compiles and starts to run. But after a few minutes crashes out with segmentation fault. The "top" suggests that the size of the task grows linearly with the time. In about 10 minutes the size is 5 times bigger. Then I tried the same code on under IRIX 6.5 with gpc-20010623. The output is crippled due to a bug but it shows the same symptom. It just keep on growing. The same code with the good-old gpc 2.0 runs for more than 20 hours without any problem. The memory management in the latest distribution must be fundamentally wrong. Have any of you experienced the same problem? Is there a compiler switch to force a more strict memory management mode? Help me please! miklos

Hello , Two problems : 1.I don't get a gcc directory in my gp-buil directory. 2.I called make pascal.distbindist in gpc-source\gcc and i get this error. make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/users/anuradas/gpcsrc/gcc-2.95.3/gcc' tar: /dev/rmt/0: Permission denied make: *** [pascal.bindist] Error 1 Can somebody tell me what the problem could be?
