FPC compiler bug: functional parameter invocation

Hello! This short program compiles without a warning, but crashes at execution. The compiler is FPC 2.2 on the win32 platform. program Crashes(input,output); function B(l:integer):boolean; begin B:=true; end; procedure Q(j:integer;function A(l:integer):boolean); function E(l:integer):boolean; begin E := false end; begin if A(j) then Q(200,E); end; begin Q(100,B); end. The name gcc-4.1.2-20070925 indicates that you have different version. IIRC the patch /usr/src/redhat/BUILD/ is was used for Redhat modified sources, which are usually different than official version. I would suggest to try to use unmodified gcc-4.1.2. If for some reason you need to use RedHat/Fedora specific version, please make sure first that you can compile gcc alone -- without gpc. Concerning the error message: it tells you that the identifier 'have_used_extensions' is undefined. AFAICS this identifier does not apper in gcc-4.1.2 (change log claims that it was removed in 2005). Gpc patches some gcc files, but the patch also does not contain it. So I think that you get message about 'have_used_extensions' because your 'gcc-4.1.2-20070925' is a modified version and that the modification contains error. -- Waldek Hebisch hebisch(a)math.uni.wroc.pl

I'm trying to compile gpc on a Fedora 8 system, and I can' find instructions on how to compile it with newer versions of gcc. Should I just get the latest gpc sources and try to compile with newer gcc-4.1.2 sources?

This will be hopefully fixed in the kernels soon and future GCC releases might provide an optional workaround for this bug. Building shared objects with GP

Hi GPC crew, I am trying to build shared objects with gp on SUN Sparc Solaris 10 using gpc 20070904 based on gcc-4.1.2. I tried many options of gp with no success. It looks like gp does not pass the --shared and -fPIC command line options to gpc so it produces only regular objects. So, is there a way to benefit from gp's great features to generate shared objects? Thanks Pascal Viandier

Is it possible to use dynamic arrays in gpc?

Hello. I'm trying to use such a code: type TVar = object param1, param2:string; .... end; TVarList = object Items:array of TVar; count:cardinal; ..... end; In Delphi and FPC it works fine, but in GPC i get an error 45: warning: missing string capacity -- assuming 255 49: error: syntax error before `of' Is it possible to use dynamic arrays in gpc? I had searched gpc manual, but it is not clear for me - may be, it is possible to use dynamic array only as function parametr? It seems to be a little strange - dynamic arrays are a very old feature :( -- Best regards, Yuriy Ohonin.

"internal compiler error" with gpc-20070904 on CString2String use

The attached program causes an "internal compiler error" when compiled using gpc version 20070904, based on gcc-3.4.5 (mingw special), running on Windows XP. -- Dave
