You obviously have an installation problem: The `gpc' compiler driver program cannot locate the libraries `crt0.o' and `libgpc.a'. (This is the common source of both problems you posted to this list.) It seems as if you have installed an "a.out" compiler on your ELF system. Please check whether the following directories (or something similar) exist and contain the files they should: `libgpc.a' should be in /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-linuxaout/2.7.2.1/ `crt0.o' should be in /usr/i486-linuxaout/lib/crt0.o Alternatively, both files may be in directories which are in your library path. If you don't have them, get them from your GPC and GCC distribution. sqr (Alternatively) (if my guess is right), you can install an ELF version of GPC, available on ftp://kampi.hut.fi/jtv/gnu-pascal/binary/ or on ftp://agnes.dida.physik.uni-essen.de/gnu-pascal/binary/. Alternatively pow 3, you can get the source of GPC (drop `binary' from the URLs above) and recompile. On a Linux system this is no real problem if you have the source of gcc-2.7.2.1 (no other version; 7MB compressed) and follow the instructions in the file `INSTALL'. String comparisons

I just noticed that GPC ignores trailing spaces when comparing strings with the usual operators ("=" and so on). I see that this seems to be required by the standard, and that there are othere operators ("eq" or such) for exact comparisions. However, I find this behaviour quite inconsistent and annoying (took me quite some time to figure out why s='' was true when s wasn't empty...)-:, and it would cause much trouble when porting BP programs. When using "--borland-pascal", GPC says "warning: ISO 7185 Pascal does not define string functions". So, would it be possible to make "=" and so on work as exact comparisons (at least in the "--borland-pascal" mode, and preferably also with a separate switch)? I take it the compiler should reply with some error and not a fatal signal? Or this one of the things that has been fixed in the later betas? I keep receiving an error when trying to compile a program I just finished. I run: 'gpc new.pas -o new' and receive 'cannot open -lgpc.' What do I need to do to fix this?

hello everybody ! I want to use the inline assembler of GPC in a function, such as function fct:integer; begin asm(" mov $10,%%eax {just an example } : : :"eax"); end; ( I learned that in the excellent GPCASM of Dario "-PrEdAtOrZ-" Anzani ) I want to set the result of the function, directly from the asm part.Is it possible ? Is there something like the @result of turbo pascal in GPC ? If no ,what is the adress of the result ? ( %esp+x, %ebp+x ?).BTW, I use GPC for DOS I hope you can help me !
